How the Program Works

Religious education

This aspect of our catechesis program is open to all families with children up to 5th grade in the parish. Class groups will range from Pre-K to 5th grade. Religious Education sessions will take place on Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:45 in the parish hall. Please see the calendar for the dates of the 7 sessions in the first semester, and 8 sessions in the second semester. Parents are invited to participate simultaneously in an adult formation session, in order to be better prepared to teach their children the faith in their faith in the home. Childcare will be provided. Parents will also be given materials to help their children continue learning in a hands on way at home.

1st Communion

The core of the program is participation of both the child and parents in our Sacramental Preparation Program on Sunday mornings from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM. Parent and child meetings will vary between formation done in family, and formation that are separated into parent groups and child groups. 1st Communion families are also asked to attend a minimum of two Family Nights during the year. Family Nights will take place on Friday nights once a month. Childcare will be provided for both 1st communion classes and Family Nights.

Confirmation

Candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation, 7th through 12th grade will meet on Sunday evenings with the youth group respective to their age; Four-12 (6th - 8th grade) from 5.00pm - 6.30pm and RISE (9th - 12th grade) from 6.30pm - 8.00pm.  Teens, Parents and Sponsors will also attend a quarterly session together.

Additional service days and retreats will be included in the schedule for both Sacramental Preparation Programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is “catechesis”?

Catechesis is nothing other than the process of transmitting the Gospel. Catechesis comes from the Greek word katekhesis meaning "to hand on by word of mouth.” The word “disciple” comes from the Latin word discipulus meaning “learner.” In short, catechesis is simply talking about our Lord Jesus to all “disciples” or “learners.”

Our family is unable to participate in the Sunday sessions and would like an alternate option for Catechesis. What should we do?

When you register on the website please check the box indicating you are interested in the homeschooling option, and we will contact you with more information.

Is there a program for adult Confirmation?

Yes. Contact Nina Potter for more information.
